Dear Families,
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that in Kindergarten, although tests are given, our primary goal is to have students master the process of applying learned information and navigating through any given assessment. Scores are used so that we are able to track growth, however, unlike other grade levels, we do not give letter or percentage grades on report cards. Although you may see percentages on test papers, we use that as a guide NOT as a concrete grade for a report card. We look at the whole child and how well the child is able to independently apply knowledge orally and on paper, along with their growth throughout each unit.
Please make sure to always sign and return tests the following day. Take the opportunity to review the test with your child. Please note, after all assessments have been given, the test questions are reviewed one-on-one to ensure each students’ understanding of both concepts and navigating the test. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the assessments.
Thank you so much,
The Kindergarten Teachers
