The STEM Academy is the new, expanded academy that replaced the Academy of Engineering (AOE) beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. The STEM Academy is a Manasquan High School Academy in which students can take courses that expose them to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. It is a “hands-on” student-centered academy designed to promote creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Since the 2021-2022 school year, Manasquan High School has been proud to partner with Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national non-profit organization that empowers students in grades K – 12 with in-demand, transportable skills. Qualified Manasquan High School students will have the option to engage in college-level engineering & biomedical courses and earn college credits while still on our high school campus. These courses are taught by Manasquan High School teachers who have been certified by PLTW as adjunct faculty members for their respective PLTW courses.
STEM Academy students may take specialized PLTW elective courses for college credit, use the Innovation Lab for personal projects, participate in field trips, as well as apply for scholarships, internships, and job-shadowing positions with local engineering or biomedical firms. Students are also challenged to apply their learning and improve their leadership skills through participation in a wide range of STEM-focused service-learning projects such as the state-wide, sustainability-focused STEAM Tank Challenge, a Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam, or other outside competition that showcases their work.
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Academy aims to provide students with a framework to maximize their strengths and talents while participating in a curriculum that is rich in both content and experience that matches their desired career interests. The academy prepares students that are interested in pursuing a career in STEM by offering them a challenging and rigorous STEM focused curriculum. During a student’s freshman year, some students may express a high level of interest in a STEM career and we encourage them to pursue this by taking rigours STEM courses throughout their time here at MHS.
The Honors STEM Academy is a program that will provide students who meet a specific career interest with a structured, small learning community experience. Students in the Honors STEM Academy will have a rigorous 3-year prescribed course of study to guide their profile development. The three STEM disciplines include: Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, and Information Technology.
Graduation:
- To graduate from the STEM Academy, students must take at least one course from any of the 3 discipline-specific lists: Engineering, Information Technology, or Biomedical Science along with three, or more, additional STEM courses (from either the discipline-specific list or STEM open electives list). STEM Academy Scholars may graduate with Distinction honors after successfully completing a rigorous 3-year prescribed course of study program to develop career-ready skills within their chosen discipline.
- Application Process: To graduate from the STEM Academy, students apply during their senior year. Their eligibility is based on high school courses taken, as verified by their high school transcript. Underclassmen should refer to this list of "STEM Academy Courses" to confirm they are on track to graduate from the STEM Academy their senior year. These requirements are also listed on the MHS Counseling Services website HERE.

The “2025 MHS STEM Academy: Application for Graduation” form is now open!
Attention Seniors: The “2025 MHS STEM Academy: Application for Graduation” form is now open and closes on Dec. 10th. Complete this Microsoft Form: https://forms.office.com/r/Fmaph11kbZ to apply for graduation from the STEM Academy.
Accepted students will then be notified of their next action steps prior to the MHS STEM Academy Graduation Ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025, at 6 pm. Contact Mrs. Edwards with any questions.

2020 STEAM TANK Cancelled by COVIDAll 2020 NJ STEAM TANK competitions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our 24 teams that advanced to the semifinals will have the option to present during the 2021 season of competition, if they choose to.
