Special Education Mission Statement
Manasquan High School offers program options and specialized services to meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of students with disabilities within the least restrictive environment. This department offers a continuum of special education classes, related services and supplementary aids designed to accommodate individual student needs, talents, and interests. In-class resource is a collaborative approach between the subject specialist and special education teacher in the general education classroom. Our Learning and Language Disabilities program provides replacement classes for academic subjects and provides for greater structure and support creating the foundation for an individual student's program. The Life Skills program affords some of our young adults the ability to learn and apply functional life skills in the classroom and around the school campus in the form of on-campus jobs.
The Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Team develops programs of instruction that meet the individual needs of classified students while knowledgeable and caring professionals are hired and trained to educate and support our diverse student population. Case managers, guidance counselors, teachers and support staff work collaboratively with students and families to ensure that all students have access to high quality instruction responsive to their needs..Transition services provide purposeful, organized goals designed to help students move from middle school to high school and from high school to post-secondary education and/or employment and quality adult living. Regulations require consideration of transition services for students receiving Special Education by age 14, and each year thereafter.
