Dear Manasquan High School Parents and Students,
In the spring of 2009, Manasquan High School embarked on a unique partnership with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) that allows us to offer our students a specialized program in the area of health careers. Through this agreement, Manasquan High School is able to offer a challenging, specialized curriculum that will allow students to pursue a career in health care and medicine. Currently, we are offering four classes (Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Injury Management, Nutrition and Dynamics of Health Care in Society) that are certified by UMDNJ. We are also planning on adding a new course, Medical Terminology, for the 2010-2011 school year.
Upon successful completion of these challenging courses, students can qualify to take the end-of-course exam at UMDNJ. Students who pass the exam can earn 3 free college credits for each course. The UMDNJ program is accredited and well-respected- schools that accept credit from UMDNJ courses include Boston College, Rutgers, Northwestern, Georgetown and Villanova.
Manasquan High School is extremely proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our students- currently, we are one of only two public high schools in the state of New Jersey that is offering this program. Our teachers are working closely with the faculty of UMDNJ in writing and revising curriculum and discussing future programs we can offer. We believe this partnership with UMDNJ to be yet another reason why Manasquan High School continues to challenge our students and offer the very best in the way of instruction, college preparedness and career opportunities.
Should you be interested in enrolling in one of these courses, please discuss this with your guidance counselor during your scheduling meetings. We hope you take advantage of this unique educational experience.
